This adventure offers the opportunity to live in an authentic Amazon River style with palm-thatched houses, kerosene lighting and open-hearth cooking in a rainforest surrounding. Room, shower and toilet facilities are identical to those of Explorama Lodge. The recommended 5 day/4 night program, including two nights at Explorama Lodge, provides the opportunity to take special rainforest treks and excursions into the surrounding primeval forest in an area named by scientists as the “Biodiversity Capital of the World ”. Other options available from ExplorNapo include an overnight adventure staying in ExplorTambo shelters which are located in more remote rainforest, as well as staying overnight at the ACTS Field Station.

In the short time that the area has been visited by biologists, zoologists and our guides, many different species of primates - red titi monkeys, yellow handed titi monkeys, tamarins, squirrel monkeys, monk sakis, pygmy marmosets and howler monkeys have been observed. In addition to primates, they have also confirmed the presence of ocelots, tayras, arboreal anteaters, and other mammals. The ExplorTambo basic program includes nights at Explorama Lodge and ExplorNapo as well as the Tambos. Now there's something for the most adventurous traveler: the NEW TAMBOS! This primitive camp, deep in the virgin rainforest reserve area of the Napo River, is over two hours walk from ExplorNapo. The NEW TAMBOS have a maximum capacity for 16 explorers sharing this unique experience. Each person or couple has their own shelter with mosquito netted beds (mosquito nets for couples are available). Bathing is done native style in a stream flowing by the Camp. Meals are cooked on an open-hearth. Due to the camp's isolation, the possibilities for spotting wildlife are much better than from any other lodge in this part of the Amazon. In the short time that this area has been visited by biologists, zoologists and our guides, they have observed many different species of primates - red titi monkeys, yellow handed titi monkeys, tamarins, squirrel monkeys, monk sakis, pygmy marmosets and howler monkeys. In addition to primates, they have also confirmed the presence of puma, ocelot, tayra, arboreal anteater and other mammals. In the 5 day program you will have the chance to seek out animals and birds in this sea of green forest as well as enjoy the plant and insect life easily at hand.
