WEDNESDAY-You will be met and transferred to the Quito airport and the Tame Airlines flight #193 departing on at 9:15 a.m. arriving Baltra at 9:45 a.m. You will be met & transferred to BARTOLOME where it seems like we are walking on the moon as this young Island is inhospitable to most plants and animals. After a dry landing, we have a 30 minute steep climb to a summit of a once active volcano for a panoramic view including the famous "Pinnacle Rock", an eroded tuff cone. Down below, the water is crystal clear where we can swim and snorkel with schools of fish. Penguins are usually spotted in this area. On the other side, is another beach with sea turtles and white-tipped sharks.( L/D )

Isabella - Ferdanina

THURSDAY-This morning, we disembark at Punta Espinoza, FERNANDINA. Along the shoreline hundreds of marine iguanas bask in the sun - the largest colony in Galapagos. There are many sea lions with resident bulls are present. Flightless Cormorants build their nests on the point and often Galapagos Hawks fly up overhead. Recent lava flows formed by an active volcano are evident. This afternoon, we visit Tagus Cove, ISABELA, the largest Island in Galapagos created by six volcanos that flowed together. Graffiti dating back to the 1800's is written on the rocky cliff. The trail leads to a salt water lagoon and a great view of the lava fields, volcanic formation and the ocean. A ride by panga or sea kayak reveals marine life and Galapagos penguins. ( B/L/D

We also see the great blue heron, a lava heron, oyster catchers and yellow crowned night heron. If the tide is low, we'll see marine iguanas grazing on the exposed green algae. Our walk ends at the grottos, deep pools of clear water where we encounter the fur sea lion. Once though to be on the verge of extinction This afternoon, we disembark on RABIDA ISLAND ( Jervis) located off James Island. Rabida has the most diversified volcanic rocks of all islands and shy its often termed the geographic center of Galapagos. The dark red colored beach is volcanic in origin. The trail leads to a salt water lagoon, where we may find flamingos feeding. The mangroves at the far side of the lagoon are nesting area for the brown pelican. Baltra - Puerto Ayora (Santa Cruz Island)

THURSDAY-You will be met and transferred to the Quito airport and the Tame Airlines flight #193 departing on at 9:15 a.m. arriving Baltra at 9:45 a.m. You will be met & transferred to to Itabaca Channel (between Baltra and Santa Cruz islands) to cross by small ferry. Then continue by road through the highlands of Santa Cruz to the Charles Darwin Research Station. Visit the Charles Darwin Research Station and the giant tortoise pens, an impressive giant prickly-pear cactus forest and many land birds. To take fullest advantage of arrival day, boarding of the Santa Cruz will be at late afternoon (no earlier than 17:30). Naturalist's briefing on the next day's activities, welcome cocktail offered by the Captain and dinner. ( CB/L/D )

Tagus Cove (Isabela Island) Punta Espinoza (Fernandina Island)

FRIDAYEarly cruise into the Bolivar Channel where the cool waters will give Galapagos a not-so-tropical landscape. This can be rewarded with the possibility of observing dolphins or whales. The colossal young volcanoes are just breath taking. Morning disembarkation at Tagus Cove, a protected natural harbor. A walk uphill takes you around Darwin's salt-water crater lake for a superb view. There is also the possibility of a dinghy ride along the shoreline to see the unique fauna of the largest island in the Archipelago. Galapagos Penguins along the shore are always a highlight. Possibility for swimming and snorkeling. Lunch on board. The afternoon brings us to the youngest island, Fernandina. First, a dinghy ride to observe penguins, as well as flightless cormorants and then disembark (dry landing) for a one-mile walk. Punta Espinoza has an amazing combination of barrenness with lots of wildlife. Having no introduced mammals, Fernandina has a very unique environment with the highest density of marine iguanas, sharing their space with sea lions, sally-light foot crabs, and hawks. Lava terrain calls for good walking shoes. There is a possibility for snorkeling. Recap and a briefing before dinner. ( B/L/D )

Urbina Bay (Isabela Island) Punta Moreno (Isabela Island)

SATURDAY-Before breakfast, scenic cruise along Bolavar Channel and possible observation of whales and/or dolphins. Breakfast and disembarkation (wet landing) for a medium-length walk at Urbina Bay to look for giant tortoises and land iguanas. This place went through a volcanic uplifting event back in 1954 leaving gaunt marine skeletons, which make the walk remarkably interesting. Those who wish may take either only a short walk along the beach, or a longer walk towards the interior of the island. Possibility for swimming and snorkeling. Back on board for lunch. The forces of the Galapagos volcanoes can be easily witnessed here. Afternoon outing (dry landing) for a medium length walk at Punta Moreno (west of Isabela Island) to observe unique lava flows and small lagoons with bird life. Those who do not wish to take the shore excursion may enjoy a panga ride along the shoreline to observe birds and marine iguanas. Evening conference and dinner. Weather permitting, stargazing on deck ( B/L/D )

Gardner Bay (Hood Island)Punta Suarez (Hood Island)

SUNDAY-After breakfast, disembark at Gardner Bay (wet landing) for a short walk along the cleanest white coral beach you can imagine. You can either take a short walk and watch the sea lions, mockingbirds, finches, enjoy the beach, snorkel and swim from the beach, or ride the glass-bottom boat around Gardner and Tortuga islets. Great snorkeling at these locations.
